The blond highlights and high skin fade with a disconnected undercut amplify height and increase contrast.

Effortless Personalized Haircuts for All Hair Types

There’s nothing wrong with keeping your hair super short, but that doesn’t mean it has to lack interest. It’s low-maintenance and fun, which is perfect for incredibly busy men. Thick hair can take on a life of its own, and for some men, styling it seems impossible. If you embrace its messy nature, this stylish hairstyle is a modern, fun and professional look for guys. A pomade applied to damp hair will help you achieve this look; just apply it evenly and then tousle hair with your fingertips.

Curly Hair Fade with Multiple Shaved Lines

Waves, sharp-angled lines, and a finely carved beard – this faux hawk haircut is pure perfection. A fade haircut contrasting with long, curly hair on the top makes a dynamic and daring look. Ask your barber to shave in a line or two on one side of your disconnected curly hair undercut for a proper showstopper haircut.

Curly Bangs

Stylist Angela Jansen of Australia used Wahl Beret’s mini clippers to carve in the design. This men’s haircut features unique tribal prints and Greek decals hair design. Added hair color ideas for men are fun, giving the hair more personality. What a way to express a grounded, simple life but with all the flair and boldness.

Low Fade and Intricate Hair Design

Once you get the hang of it, the clean-cut finish takes minutes in the morning and lasts all day. A skin fade comb over is one of the bolder styles you can choose, especially for guys with longer hair. As you can see, the hair is quite long in this example, and the skin fade on the side makes it appear even bolder.

haircut and design

The designs need regular upkeep to keep them clean and defined. Regularly see your barber or stylist every 2 weeks to maintain the designs. This short 'do is so low maintenance, you can literally roll out of bed and go.

Founded by color expert Tracey Cunningham and veteran hairstylist Neil Weisberg, Mèche Salon delivers service that is a practice in perfection. Ahead, three top hairstylists break down the eight haircuts that are guaranteed to become the most-requested looks of 2021. "A short shag for someone with very thick coarse hair will be a lot of maintenance." Clean angled hairline and short, precise lines make an ultimately striking look. We know that hairstyles say a lot about us but how about wearing a star from the flag of your country and its abbreviation?

Whilst this haircut is extremely versatile and easy to upkeep, lightning-shaped freestyle design lines give it some edginess and a unique feel. The only downside is that razor-shaved lines grow out fairly quickly. Consider an intricate hair design and a spiky fohawk to make a bold hairstyle statement. The unique and eye-catching look of this style combines the edgy allure of a fohawk with the intricate details of a hair design. With a spiky fohawk, the hair is styled and spiked up at the center of the head, creating a distinctive and daring silhouette.

If you view your curly hair as a curse, this taper fade haircut may just change your mind. If you have curly or wavy hair, a short textured hairstyle with a high fade on the sides and back looks professional enough for the office, but still casual for a night out. As a short sides, longer top haircut, you’ll need 2 to 3 inches of length on top that tapers down to a close bald fade on the sides and toward the nape of the neck. All you need to complete the look and keep it amazing all day is a matte hair product such as pomade, wax or clay. As a popular hairstyle, the quiff is a cool look that continues to be a favorite in barbershops around the world.

The cross hair design is a bold and meaningful look that can add a cool, subtle style to your cut. You’ll need to have some faith to pull off this beautiful Christian symbol. A cool curve hair design will add leaps and bounds to your hairstyle and will have all your friends asking how they can copy your look. The shadow design is a cool and striking look that can be challenging for any random barber, but once you find a skilled professional, he’ll be able to do you up right.

Whether you want short, medium or long hair, the best haircut styles can help you look and feel good. Men who live no-nonsense lifestyles often go for very short hairstyles that require little to no effort on their part, and this cool buzz cut fade is a great choice. The perfect shape up makes the short style look striking, and the two lines on the sides as hair designs add some extra interest.

Commodores Brick House '93 Lyrics

commodores she's a brick house

During this time period, many Black Americans were fighting for self-determination and cultural pride in the face of systemic racism and oppression. If you have ever wondered how songwriters and musicians come up such great songs you will love the story behind the Commodores classic “Brick House”. The song's popularity even spawned a beauty contest of sorts that followed the Commodores as they travelled the globe giving concerts. The band would choose a lucky winner at each tour stop, who would henceforth be named the Miss Brickhouse of that locale.

The song’s message of empowerment for Black women continues to resonate with fans of all backgrounds. In an era where movements like Black Lives Matter and the push for body positivity have gained mainstream attention, “Brick House” is a reminder of the power of self-love and acceptance. This odd yet evocative four-word string, backed by one of popular music's funkiest basslines, has long been ingrained deep in the psyche of even casual listeners. Over the 38 years since the song "Brick House" was released on the Commodores' self-titled 1977 album, it has gained and maintained its position as a staple at weddings and proms, in movies and TV shows and on playlists on each era's sonic delivery device of choice. The song’s popularity amongst African American audiences further cemented its place as a funk classic that has stood the test of time. The song’s message of empowerment and pride in Black female beauty is emblematic of the Black Power Movement of the 1960s and 70s.

The song features powerful horns, tight rhythm guitar, and a memorable bassline that has been sampled by countless other artists over the years. The track’s energy and syncopation are a testament to the band’s skills as musicians, and it’s no surprise that it catapulted them to mainstream success soon after its release. As of 2021, “Brick House” remains one of the most recognizable funk songs of all time. Its infectious groove has been used in countless movies, TV shows, and commercials, cementing its place in popular culture.

Beyond its message, “Brick House” is also notable for its impeccable musicianship. As a funk band, Commodores were known for synthesizing elements of rock, jazz, and soul into a unique sound that was all their own. But the legacy of the song continues mainly through its status as a must-play on DJ's standard party set-lists from Birmingham to Boise. The song went through further tweaks and mastering by engineers and Motown whizzes after that first session, but the band recorded all the main parts that day in Tuskegee, Bailey added.

The Production and Musicianship Behind “Brick House”

Written by Commodores band members Lionel Richie, Ronald LaPread, Walter “Clyde” Orange, and Milan Williams, the lyrics praise a woman who defies stereotypes with her curvy figure and unapologetic attitude. This is one of those phrases that started off as incredibly rude, and through sheer repetition (and dropping one key word) turned into a compliment. See, the original expression, from early 1900s slang, was built like a brick shithouse.

Genius is the world’s biggest collection of song lyrics and musical knowledge

commodores she's a brick house

Despite the rise to ubiquity of the classic tune, the story of its creation is a humble one that serves as a reminder of the power of creativity, musical chemistry and hard work, with a heaping serving of swagger. The Creed lead singer reveals the "ego and self-fulfillment" he now sees in one of the band's biggest hits. "And they sure enough did because that was the biggest commercial song ever been done by the Commodores, 'Brick House.' All that, right here in this building. This is where the magic happened." One of Canada's most popular and eclectic performers, Hawksley tells stories about his oldest songs, his plentiful side projects, and the ways that he keeps his songwriting fresh. The models in Robert Palmer's iconic "Addicted To Love" video were chosen in part because they couldn't play music, so they're all playing and moving to different rhythms.

Newspaper clippings from the era indicate that the competitions were major draws. More than 800 people attended a 1982 Miss Brickhouse event in Indianapolis, according to the Indianapolis Recorder. Old Time Music is proud to have such a passionate and talented team of writers who share their love for music with our readers. Glen Ballard talks about co-writing and producing Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill album, and his work with Dave Matthews, Aerosmith and Annie Lennox.

"Brick House" went on to be band's most commercial hit, peaking at #5 on the U.S. charts, but achieving a staying power that would impress even late soul crooner Barry White. But according to Bailey and Commodores frontman Lionel Richie, it all began with an idea Commodores drummer Walter 'Clyde' Orange brought into the studio that charmed day. In a 1996 interview with a Swedish news outlet, Richie credited Orange with writing "most of the lyrics and most of the melody to" the track. At its core, “Brick House” is a celebration of Black women’s beauty and a rejection of Eurocentric beauty standards.

Antibiotic use and resistance patterns at Rumphi District Hospital in Malawi: a cross-sectional study Full Text

cross section design

The primary goal of a cross-sectional study is to examine and analyze the relationships or associations between different variables within a population at a specific point in time. Still, they use longitudinal studies, due to their nature, to dissect the research from the cross-sectional studies for further research. Explanatory cross-sectional studies go beyond identifying associations; they aim to explain why certain patterns or relationships are observed.

What is the best study design?

Observational studies monitor study participants without providing study interventions. This paper describes the cross-sectional design, examines the strengths and weaknesses, and discusses some methods to report the results. Future articles will focus on other observational methods, the cohort, and case-control designs. However, simulation-based education does not only bring the aforementioned positive outcomes to participating students. Studies on nursing students in Korea have reported that nursing students who participated in simulation-based education felt nervous and anxious, overwhelmed and embarrassed, and guilty about making mistakes [5, 8, 9].

Descriptive vs analytical studies

In a cross-sectional study, the investigator measures the outcome and the exposures in the study participants at the same time. Once the participants have been selected for the study, the investigator follows the study to assess the exposure and the outcomes. Cross-sectional designs are used for population-based surveys and to assess the prevalence of diseases in clinic-based samples.

Cross-sectional studies are also known as descriptive research

However, cross-sectional studies can offer valuable insights into a population and lay the foundations for future research using experimental or longitudinal studies. In cross-sectional research, researchers typically use a sampling frame to identify a population of interest, such as individuals who enjoy vaping. By collecting relevant data from the sample, researchers can generalize their findings to describe the characteristics of the broader vaping population.

Examples of Cross-Sectional Data

Similarly, if the OR was less than 1, it implies that the exposed (obese) group, were less likely to be sedentary (outcome) compared to the non-obese group (unexposed) (Tenny & Hoffman, 2019). When you want to examine the prevalence of some outcome at a certain moment in time, a cross-sectional study is the best choice. Both systems place randomized controlled trials (RCT) at the highest level and case series or expert opinions at the lowest level.

Cross-sectional vs longitudinal studies

Below, we explore three significant benefits of employing cross-sectional studies in research endeavors. An example might be exploring the usage patterns of a new technology within a population to identify trends and areas for in-depth study. For instance, an analytical cross-sectional study might investigate the relationship between lifestyle choices and blood pressure levels across various age groups. We encourage the readers to go through some of these studies to understand the design and analysis of cross-sectional studies. Sometimes only cross-sectional data are available for analysis; other times your research question may only require a cross-sectional study to answer it. Prominent examples include the censuses of several countries like the US or France, which survey a cross-sectional snapshot of the country’s residents on important measures.

Examples of Cross-Sectional Studies

In a special way we would like to thank the Commonwealth Pharmacist Association (CPA), as well as Dr Watipaso Kasambala, Ellen Mzima from Ministry of Health for supporting Point Prevalence Survey. Lastly we would like to thank the Director of Health and Social Services for Rumphi District Hospital, Dr Westain Nyirenda for granting authorization to conduct the study at the facility. It is quite concerning to note that strong antibiotics such as Tigecycline that have shown 100% sensitivity over all resistant isolates are not included in the Malawi essential medicines list.

Those receiving a paper extended instrument were sent the extended survey in the language in which the screener was completed. The survey analysis is drawn from a national cross-sectional survey conducted for Pew Research Center by Westat. The sampling design of the survey was an address-based sampling (ABS) approach, supplemented by list samples, to reach a nationally representative group of respondents.

What’s the difference between cross-sectional and cohort studies?

cross section design

A large-scale study on nursing students from Korean universities in different cities and regions could provide better insight and generalizable findings on simulation satisfaction in Korean universities. Additionally, self-reporting surveys may produce skewed, exaggerated, or understated results influenced by social desirability. The association between simulation design and educational satisfaction in the model was partially mediated by the mediating variable, which was the flow of the simulation. In other words, simulation design has a direct effect on simulation educational satisfaction, and an indirect effect on nursing students’ simulation educational satisfaction by affecting the flow of the simulation.

In December 2022 a mailing was added for eligible respondents who had completed a screener questionnaire, either by web or paper but who had not yet completed the extended survey. It was sent to those who had received their last mailing in the standard sequence at least four weeks earlier. It included a cover letter, a paper copy of the extended survey, and a business reply envelope, and was assembled in a 9×12 envelope with a $1 bill made visible through the envelope window. Mailing addresses in census tracts from the lowest density stratum, strata 3, were excluded from the sampling frame. As a result, the frame excluded 54.1% of the 2020 census tracts, 49.1% of the U.S. adult population, including 9.1% of adults who self-identified as Asian alone or in combination with other races or Hispanic ethnicity.

Stress and low self-confidence due to simulation-based education [10] and the idea that others are watching them lead to anxiety, resulting in passivity when participating in simulations with peers [11]. Additionally, high anxiety levels experienced during the simulation process can drive learners into a panic, which leads to negative learning effects and decreases simulation educational satisfaction [12, 13]. This cross-sectional study was conducted using 143 fourth-year nursing students who had participated in classes using simulations at three universities in Seoul, Daegu, and Jeonbuk. Demographic data, simulation design scale (SDS), flow in simulation, and the educational satisfaction scale in simulation were collected via an online questionnaire.

Since cross-sectional studies are suitable for examining chronic diseases or conditions, the POR is generally the ideal measure of association to use (Alexander, 2015a). However, these datasets are often aggregated to a regional level, which may prevent the investigation of certain research questions. You will also be restricted to whichever variables the original researchers decided to study. You then decide to design a longitudinal study to further examine this link in younger patients. Without first conducting the cross-sectional study, you would not have known to focus on younger patients in particular. Whereas epidemiology is the study of disease occurrence and transmission in a human population, epidemiological studies focus on the distribution and determinants of disease.

You would not attempt to influence either group of individuals to modify their behavior or concerns. In other words, with cross-sectional research, the researcher tries to gather data without interfering in the results. Cross-sectional research studies gather data at one point in time, so insights from this type of research are a snapshot of a particular moment. For example, if the smoothie shop owner took a snap poll of customers on a Saturday and then again on a Monday, they might find that fruit and vegetable preferences differ across the two days. Each poll, in this case, would be considered an individual cross-sectional study with the data recorded describing preferences at each particular point in time. Selection bias can occur in cross-sectional studies if the sample is not representative of the population from which it was drawn.

The findings underline the need to revamp diagnostic microbiology to increase the uptake of antimicrobial susceptibility testing to guide specific prescriptions of broad-spectrum antibiotics in the watch list. We investigated antibiotic use and resistance patterns among patients with suspected first line antibiotic treatment failure at Rumphi District Hospital, Malawi. 2) Differences in simulation educational satisfaction according to the general characteristics of the participants were analyzed by t-test and one-way ANOVA, and Sheffe’s test was used as the post hoc test. To prevent duplicate survey participation, only one response could be submitted per IP, and only one response per item was allowed to exclude multiple responses. The mobile phone numbers collected for sending rewards were used to check for duplicate participation.

Cross-sectional studies: Definition, benefits, and challenges

cross section design

Longitudinal studies involve monitoring the same individuals over time, which can be expensive and time-consuming due to the need for large sample sizes to account for churn rates over the study period. In a cross-sectional study, data are collected from a sample of the target population at a specific point in time, and everyone in the sample is assessed in the same way. There isn’t a manipulation of variables or a control group as there would be in an experimental study design. Recipients thought to be more likely to use a specific language option, based on supplemental information in the sampling frame or their address location, were sent a paper screener in that language in addition to an English screener questionnaire.

cross section design

Examples of cross-sectional studies

In contrast, cross-sectional studies collect data at just one point in time, allowing for quicker access to research findings once data collection is complete. This makes cross-sectional studies particularly valuable for research projects that are under tight time constraints, have limited budgets, or where insights are needed quickly. Cross-sectional research design can be used to assess the attitudes, interests, or behaviors of a study sample.

Cohort Differences

Cross sectional study designs and case series form the lowest level of the aetiology hierarchy. In the cross sectional design, data concerning each subject is often recorded at one point in time. Data records for AST were collected from microbiology electronic register retrospectively, covering the period of 2019 to May, 2023. All nursing students who fulfilled the study’s inclusion criteria were invited to participate in the optional survey. The exclusion criteria were on leave from school, or diagnosed with a significant mental illness or psychiatric disorder. Nevertheless, simulation-based education improves nursing students’ problem-solving, clinical judgment, and communication skills [5, 6] and develops the teamwork necessary for clinical nurses [7], leading to its increasing use in nursing education.

Are cross-sectional studies qualitative or quantitative?

The data was analyzed for antibiotic use, characterization of pathogens and their susceptibility patterns using Microsoft excel and STATA-14 software. Therefore, to maximize the effectiveness of simulation-based education, instructors should develop strategies to increase flow in simulation situations to elicit learners’ flow experiences [15, 20]. In recent years, many studies on simulation education in Korea have identified learning outcomes and defining factors after training [5,6,7, 9, 12, 20]. However, there is a lack of research on the role of flow in learning design and simulation educational satisfaction. A cohort study is a type of longitudinal study that samples a group of people with a common characteristic.

Cross-sectional studies can also be susceptible to confounding, where an external variable influences both the independent and dependent variables, creating a spurious association. Without longitudinal data, it is difficult to control for or identify these confounding factors, which can lead to erroneous conclusions. Researchers must carefully consider potential confounders and employ statistical methods to adjust for these variables where possible. Cross-sectional studies are inherently timely, providing quick snapshots that are especially valuable in fast-paced research areas where timely data is crucial. They allow researchers to collect and analyze data relatively quickly, offering insights that are current and relevant. This timeliness is particularly beneficial for informing immediate policy decisions or for studies in fields where trends may change rapidly, such as technology or public health.

Cross-sectional study

One of the inherent limitations of cross-sectional studies is their inability to establish causality. Since data is collected at a single point in time, it is challenging to ascertain whether a relationship between two variables is causal or merely correlational. This limitation necessitates cautious interpretation of results, as establishing temporal precedence is essential for causal inference, which cross-sectional designs cannot provide.

Unlike other types of observational studies, cross-sectional studies do not follow individuals up over time. They are useful for establishing preliminary evidence in planning a future advanced study. This article reviews the essential characteristics, describes strengths and weaknesses, discusses methodological issues, and gives our recommendations on design and statistical analysis for cross-sectional studies in pulmonary and critical care medicine.

Government policy supporting rotation of certain broad-spectrum antibiotics could help to safeguard and maintain the sensitivity profile for a longer user [30]. The data collected through the survey was anonymized with a unique identification code and deleted immediately after saving the research data. Stored research data was encrypted and would be permanently deleted three years after the completion of the study. Participants’ mobile phone numbers that were collected to provide rewards were permanently deleted immediately after the rewards were sent. The recruitment document and study description were delivered through the fourth-year class representative. Cross-sectional studies don’t need a control group as the selected population is not based on exposure.

However, the combination of the PPS findings, the patents antibiotic history as well as laboratory AMR data improved the validity and reliability of the study outcomes. The results of assessing the mediating effect of flow on the relationship between simulation design and simulation educational satisfaction of the participants were as follows (Table 4; Fig. 1). As a result of checking for multicollinearity among the independent variables to verify the assumptions for the regression analysis, the tolerance was 0.70, and the variance expansion factor was 1.43, indicating no multicollinearity. As a result of checking the autocorrelation of the dependent variable, the Durbin-Watson value was 2.06, which was close to 2, indicating that they were independent of each other. Cross-sectional studies are observational studies that analyze data from a population at a single point in time. They are often used to measure the prevalence of health outcomes, understand determinants of health, and describe features of a population.

Limitations of cross-sectional studies include the inability to make causal inferences, study rare illnesses, and access incidence. Once the researcher has selected the ideal study period and participant group, the study usually takes place as a survey or physical experiment. We’ll explore examples, types, advantages, and limitations of cross-sectional studies, plus when you might use them. Please choose from one of our 350+ survey templates, or build your own and leverage our reporting tools to discover deep insights to apply to your best work. You can also use this type of research to map prevailing variables that exist at a particular given point—for example, cross-sectional data on past drinking habits and a current diagnosis of liver failure.

Data with missing values for age, sample type or results for culture tests were excluded. The second set of records were files for hospitalized patients reviewed during PPS as described in the subsequent paragraphs. With an inappropriate response rate of approximately 10%, 152 participants were selected for the study. A total of 152 people responded, and 143 were selected for the final analysis after excluding nine people who gave biased responses.

Are you considering whether a cross-sectional study is an ideal approach for your next research? Participants in longitudinal studies have to commit for an extended period, which significantly increases costs. Although longitudinal and cross-sectional studies are both observational, they are relatively different types of research design. Cross-sectional studies typically allow researchers to collect a great deal of information quickly. Researchers are then able to amass large amounts of information from a large pool of participants.

This can happen due to non-random sampling methods or non-response, leading to skewed results that do not accurately reflect the broader population. Such bias can compromise the generalizability of the study's findings, making it critical to employ rigorous sampling methods and consider potential biases during analysis. The versatility of cross-sectional studies is evident in their wide applicability across various fields and purposes. They can be designed to explore numerous variables and their interrelations within different populations and settings. This flexibility enables researchers to tailor studies to specific research questions, making cross-sectional studies a versatile tool for exploratory research, hypothesis generation, or situational analysis across disciplines. Descriptive cross-sectional studies aim to provide a detailed snapshot of a population or phenomenon at a particular point in time.

Cross-sectional studies are not designed to follow individuals forward in time (prospective) or look back at historical data (retrospective), as they analyze data from a specific point in time. In these studies, researchers study one group of people who have developed a particular condition and compare them to a sample without the disease. Longitudinal studies require more time and resources and can be less valid as participants might quit the study before the data has been fully collected. Both cross-sectional and longitudinal studies are observational and do not require any interference or manipulation of the study environment. Cross-sectional studies can be categorized based on the nature of the data collection and the type of data being sought.

For the largest five Asian ethnic subgroups, Filipinos had the largest percentage of excluded adults, with 6.8%, while Indians had the lowest with 4.2% of the adults. This stratification and the assignment of differential sampling rates to the strata were critical design components because of the rareness of the Asian American adult population.

The Production and Musicianship Behind “Brick House”

Newspaper clippings from the era indicate that the competitions were major draws. More than 800 people attended a 1982 Miss Brickhouse event in Indianapolis, according to the Indianapolis Recorder.
